A Different Type of Jack Used for Lifting Cars: The Hydraulic Bottle Jack

Most people are familiar with what a car jack is. This is a device used to lift the vehicle off the ground so it is easier to perform certain functions such as changing a tire or replacing brake lines. There are actually a few different styles of jacks available, which include the hydraulic bottle jack. This particular jack gets its name from the bottle like shape of the main section where the hydraulic lift is. The top section of the bottle is where the lift extends out from and is what needs to be placed underneath your car or truck.

 This type of hydraulic jack is designed as a manual style so there is a handle you need to pump in order to raise the lift. The handle section on most of these styles will come as a number of long tubes you connect together. The base unit will have a central hole for attaching the end of one tube to create your handle. As with all jacks these types will come in different sizes with different lifting weight capabilities.

 You will see some that can lift four tons and some that can lift twenty tons. Depending on the particular model you choose this jack may come with additional features. Some are designed to have an air pump to use as an alternative way of raising the lift. One of the Blackhawk models is designed to operate using either the manual hand method or the air pump.
